How it works
Front cover, back cover, and optionally the spine. Drag & drop or click to select.
Our model scores cover wear, spine stress, corner blunting, centering, and staples against the CGC rubric.
A precise grade (e.g. 9.4) with a confidence score. Submit or sell raw — your call.
Why it matters
CGC grades under fluorescent lamps, not your desk lamp. A book that looks 9.0 at home often comes back 7.5 at the grading facility. The grading companies have no incentive to offer pre-screening — they get paid regardless.
CoverRate gives you an independent second opinion before you commit. A high-confidence 9.4 prediction means submit. A low-confidence 6.5 means sell raw.

FAQ
A comic is worth grading if it's a key issue in high condition and the graded value minus the CGC fee leaves a meaningful profit. CoverRate gives you an AI grade prediction before you commit to the fee — so you only submit the books that make financial sense.
CoverRate typically predicts within 0.5–1 grade point of the final CGC result. High-confidence predictions are the most reliable. Use it as a filter: if CoverRate predicts a 7.0 with high confidence, paying a $50 CGC fee chasing a 9.8 doesn't make sense.
A CGC 9.8 Near Mint/Mint requires near-perfect condition: no spine stress lines, sharp unblunted corners, perfect centering, bright colors with no fading, and tight staples with no rust. Upload your photos and CoverRate scores each criterion individually against the CGC rubric.
Front cover and back cover are required. The spine photo is optional but improves prediction accuracy. Shoot in natural light, flat on a surface, without flash glare. iPhone photos work great — the AI handles HEIC format automatically.
CGC (Certified Guaranty Company) and CBCS (Comic Book Certification Service) are the two main comic grading services. Both use the same 0.5–10 scale and similar grading criteria. CoverRate predictions are compatible with both scales.
CGC submission fees start at around $25–$50 per book for economy tier, up to $150+ for faster services. Add shipping and pressing costs and it's easy to spend $80–$100+ per book. CoverRate helps you filter out the books that won't justify that investment.
